FEELS LIKE THE NEW WAVE NEVER STRETCHED ITS POISONOUS TENTACLES AT ME

Coming up short isn’t always a bad thing but I have never been a fan of short sleeve shirts. I used to own a couple but only wore them twice and gave it gave it away after. I once read in a mens magazine, ‘If you’ve got muscles, don’t wait till you hit the beach to show them.’ Unfortunately, I have no bulging muscles to begin with.

I simply prefer long sleeves even in the summer which drive mom and dad nuts. I ‘d neatly roll them up thrice but again, it really depends on your style persona. I am generally low-key. I like putting most of my energy into interesting things like checking out dads closet and going thrift shopping -It is my portrait of restraint. I may not waste time sitting in one corner listening to songs in my IPod but I guarantee you I have a lifetime supply of plaid shirts in my closet.

Here’s what I found at the thrift shop for $1.60. This handsome vintage plaid shirt from Towncraft, an embellished-free shirt reminiscent of the 1950s – totally surfer boy chic . Marry them with dark slim jeans or get friendly with this season’s shorts and pair it with moccasins or your trusty espadrilles for mooching.

Although I rarely leave the city, it is great to look as if I am preparing for a weekend jaunt in the countryside.

URBAN PREPPY FARMER

Pardon my self-promotion as I watch my skin darken from the blazing equatorial sun in my navy shorts, red gingham button-down shirt and loafers.

(A photo of me, Yup – you got it! Like my friend Anton, I figured we have been very elusive and hardly show our faces in our blogs compared to Ninja boy wonder – Cholo haha)

I might have gone a little crazy but I would rather walk around Salcedo park than toast myself alive inside my room and end up looking like an obese Mr. Gingerbread man.

The truth is, I only wanted to change out of my pajamas. So, what did you wear over the weekend?

RIBBON LOVE

I may not have a collection of ribbon belts but I own three – a hand-me-down from dad, and two from my trips abroad which I would usually pair with my favorite crisp
white button down shirt, khaki shorts and loafers / espadrilles / Sperry Topsiders.

The best ones are from Ralph Lauren,J. Crew, Brooks Brothers and locally, Wright Supply Co.

‘luxury is no longer just a case of having the latest and most expensive but a matter of unique, personal choice.’

Wearing a ribbon belt is an inexpensive way of adding oomph to one’s basic wardrobe and they add a nice touch of color to a casual summer look in a really subtle way just like the belts from Wright Supply Co.

J.CREW WITH AN EXTRA WHIFF OF SNOBBERY

It has been almost a year since I bought my first copy of Monocle and hey, I don’t regret paying Php 1250.00 for a copy monthly – that’s roughly USD 28.00.

Just last weekend, I found out from my friend Anton that Monocle just collaborated with J. Crew, an American clothing and accessories retailer based in New York for this year’s spring collection.

They might seem like an unlikely pair to team up based on price point differences and an extra whiff of snobbery but I don’t really mind.

24 copies later, it is my first time to really see photos of the guys behind the London-based magazine and yes, I’m pretty impressed! (Who wouldn't?)
